Wallpapering Across Surrey and Hampshire

Bourne Decorators hang wallpaper across Surrey and Hampshire, from single feature walls to full room and mural installations. Walls are crosslined and prepared first, so the paper sits on a smooth, stable surface, and most single rooms are completed within a day or two depending on the paper and pattern repeat.

In detail

Wallpaper rewards careful preparation. Walls are filled, sanded and crosslined first, lining paper hung horizontally so its joins never sit under the joins in the finished paper, which is what stops seams showing through later.

From a single feature wall to a full mural installation, the same attention to detail applies, corners, sockets and awkward angles included.

What wallpapering includes

01

Crosslined walls

Walls filled, sanded and crosslined, the lining paper run horizontally so its joins never land under the joins in the finished paper.

02

Hung true

Every drop plumbed and butted tight onto a properly prepared wall, so the finished paper sits flat rather than lifting or gaping.

  • I have had Jim decorate for me for nigh on 20 years and would not use anyone else. Why? Because he is absolutely honest and trustworthy. None of this 'sharp intake of breath' when looking at a job, or hidden extras. He recently repainted a dark grey orangery to cream, and my hall, stairs and landing wallpapered. The finished product is fabulous- the house is transformed. He was also very patient with me and my uncertainty over paint colours! Also I should add that he was extremely helpful when it turned out we needed plastering and scaffolding owing to my changing my mind. My only 'negative' is having to wait for him to do other jobs before he can come back to do more! (That and the need for copious tea-bags!) Wouldn't hesitate to recommend- but only if he comes here first!

  • Jim at Bourne Decorators has completed several other decorating jobs for us in the past. This latest job was to strip, line and paint walls and hang wallpaper on a feature wall in one of the rooms. Jim is reliable, knowledgeable, skilled and a pleasure to have around. (He does drink a lot of tea though!!). The work is done to an extremely high standard - we are absolutely delighted with the results - I can't stop looking at the walls - almost seems a shame to hang pictures etc. back up again. The job included having both the ceilings reboarded and skimmed prior to decoration - for which Ryan did a really great job as always. They work very tidily AND observe all recommended social distancing rules in these Covid-19 times. I would recommend Bourne Decorators without any hesitation. Philippa and Graham - East Tisted

  • I have used Jim and his team for 15 years or so, and would not have anyone else. They are friendly, trustworthy, and a delight to have in the house. (I'm sure I find jobs for them to do regularly just so that they can come back!) Ask Jim about his wallpaper top tip, it's amazing, and saves a ton of money, seriously, my house looks as good 9 years after being decorated as it did when first done.

Frequently asked questions

Wallpapering questions

How much does wallpapering cost?

Wallpapering is priced per room or per wall after a free quote, based on the paper chosen, pattern repeat and any wall preparation needed.

How long does wallpapering take?

A single feature wall can often be completed in a day, while a full room typically takes one to two days depending on the paper and pattern.

Do you supply the wallpaper or do I need to buy it?

We're happy to hang wallpaper you've chosen and purchased yourself, or advise on suppliers if you'd like recommendations.

Can you hang wallpaper murals?

Yes, we hang mural and panel wallpapers as well as standard rolls, on walls crosslined beforehand so the panels sit flat.

Do walls need to be prepared before wallpapering?

Yes. Walls are filled, sanded and crosslined before hanging, which gives a smoother, longer lasting result.

Can you wallpaper over existing wallpaper?

It's generally best to remove old paper first, and we can advise on the right approach for your walls during the quote.

What is crosslining and why do you do it?

Crosslining means hanging lining paper horizontally across the wall before the finished paper goes on vertically, so the two sets of joins never sit on top of each other. It costs an extra stage but it is what stops seams telegraphing through and gives the finished paper a flat, even surface to sit on.

Can you wallpaper around sockets, coving and awkward corners?

Yes, neat trimming around sockets, switches, coving and skirting is part of a properly finished wallpapering job.

Do you hang both traditional and modern wallpapers?

Yes, from classic floral papers to bold contemporary designs, the same careful approach applies to every paper type.

What areas do you cover for wallpapering?

Wallpapering is available across Surrey and Hampshire, within around a 20 mile radius of Liphook.
